Those goods <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynk.com\/english\/china-eases-customs-checks-north-korean-goods\/\">may now be entering the country<\/a> through official Chinese channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A source in China who works with North Korean trade contacts told Daily NK on Wednesday that word has spread through Chinese trading circles about a new understanding between the two governments. If North Korea applies within a set window for items needed to improve people&#8217;s living standards and build up its economy, China will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynk.com\/english\/china-eases-customs-checks-north-korean-goods\/\">let them through customs formally<\/a>, the source said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The expanded list of approved trade items followed Chinese President Xi Jinping&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynk.com\/english\/xi-jinping-north-korea-summit-china-diverging-interests\/?tztc=1\">visit to Pyongyang<\/a> in June. Many are racing to lock down suppliers before the opportunity closes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">North Korea has prioritized requests tied to its regional development policy, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynk.com\/english\/kim-jong-uns-20x10-regional-development-policy-falters-as-new-buildings-sit-empty\/\">program launched in 2021<\/a> to build new housing and modernize factories across the provinces. The source said North Korean authorities appear to be gathering these requests at the national level. State and trade agencies are then submitting them collectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The push has come alongside a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailynk.com\/english\/north-korea-china-trade-truck-surge\/\">broader thaw in economic cooperation <\/a>since Xi&#8217;s visit. Trade sources in China said it applies only to items submitted for approval this month. Which goods qualify, how much volume will be allowed, and when shipments will actually clear customs are all still unconfirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scope of the arrangement could grow, narrow or change entirely.
