After Michael Koth was kicked out of the
\nCommunist Party he advocated openly national revolutionary  positions. He became a member of the Workers
\nParty of Germany (Partei der Arbeit Deutschlands<\/i>\/PdAD) and later took
\nover its chairmanship. The politically insignificant PdAD was closely
\nlinked to the Society for Study and Propagation of the Juche Idea in Germany –
\nthe German-Korean Friendship Society. Both organizations, PdAD and the Korean-German
\nFriendship Society, came to be dominated by Koth and guided by the policy
\npositions of the Chosun Workers Party.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

PdAD slowly
\nconverged with neo-Nazis. Party members frequently joined demonstrations
\norganized by the neo-Fascist National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD). In
\nSummer 1998, Koth and a NPD delegation were all invited to an event hosted by
\nDPRK Ambassador Ri San Yu.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

However, a
\nfew weeks later PdAD was dissolved, having failed, in the view of German
\nintelligence, to bring together right and left wing elements. Undeterred, in
\n1999 Koth and several other notorious activists formed another group –<\/span> the Struggle League of German Socialists (Kampfbund Deutscher
\nSozialisten<\/i>\/KDS). <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In the
\nbeginning, KDS was very active. Especially in the
\nRuhr region in the west but also in the former East Germany they were able to
\nrecruit a number of new members. Koth became a member of the group‘<\/font><\/span>s central leadership and the regional leader of Berlin and
\nBrandenburg (the federal state bordering Berlin). While members in western
\nGermany were often shaped by neo-Nazism, many of those in the east were ex-members of the
\nformer Socialist Unity Party of Germany, which had been the ruling party of the
\nGerman Democratic Republic until 1989.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

KDS followed
\na strategy known as <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Querfront,”
\nwhich advocates bringing together activists from left and right to fight for
\nnational socialism (see footnote). According to statements from Michael Koth, the GDR had
\nfailed not because of the social cause but the national one. And so, he surmised,
\nfailed internationalist socialism must be replaced by nationalist socialism.
\nKDS represented a radical Anti-Americanism and Anti-Zionism, and sought
\nsolidarity with Saddam Hussein in Iraq, Slobodan Milosevic in Serbia, Hugo
\nChavez in Venezuela, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Iran… and North Korea. <\/span><\/o:p><\/span>It described Juche <\/i>as \u201cthe only remaining socialist doctrine, guiding the world’s peerless and pure society, ruled by the true National Socialism\u201d (source: KDS propaganda, 2005). <\/p>\n

However, only three
\nyears later the group was dissolved by its own leadership. According to the
\nformer \u201cAltermedia Info\u201d, this was a result of \u201cKDS’ deficient political record of
\nsuccess in the past 10 years, resp. its failure to promote the ‘Querfront’
\nconcept\u201d. At the time, Altermedia Info was one of the more prominent websites for German neo-Nazis. In 2011 its operators were sentenced to
\nimprisonment for hate crimes and other right-wing extremist criminal acts.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

But while KDS’ central organizational
\nstructure was dissolved, one local offshoot in Berlin\/Brandenburg survived. Led
\nby  Michael Koth, the group became a project to promote Juche, Songun, and
\n\u201cKimilsung-Kimjongilism\u201d…<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
