Rodong Shinmun Calls for Party Unity

North Korea’s Rodong Shinmun used an editorial on January 26 to implore Party members to become faithful revolutionary warriors of Kim Jong Eun.

The editorial, entitled ‘Party Members; let us become leaders in accomplishing the Great General’s dying wishes!’ asserted that they should live the way Kim Jong Il ‘raised’ them and become faithful revolutionary warriors to the ‘Great Comrade’ Kim Jong Eun.

The editorial continued, “[We] are the center of solidarity for the Great Comrade Kim Jong Eun; only faithfully serving our Dear Leader’s military-first policy can guarantee unification and a strong and prosperous nation, things our late Father wanted to achieve during his living years.”

The editorial closed by saying, “To the whole Party! Unite behind our Dear Comrade Kim Jong Eun and fight through today’s troubles to follow through the late General’s glory and spirit for a strong and prosperous 2012, and proudly make this year a success.”

The Rodong Shinmun’s lobbying for Party members to show unity and loyalty to Kim Jong Eun appears to betray a view that solidarity within the core class must be put above all else in order to quickly achieve regime stability.

Meanwhile, North Korea has been holding daily study sessions, lectures and People’s Unit meetings to drum in what will be the new political ideology under Kim Jong Eun, using slogans such as “The whole army and people must firmly unite behind Comrade Kim Jong Eun” and “Kim Jong Eun is our Great Leader who is followed and trusted by the army and the people.”
