Kim Jung Eun hosted an enlarged meeting of the Chosun Workers’ Party Central Military Commission in which he
mandated consolidation of the military and reshuffling of its system, so that
the military can react effectively to any type of warfare, North Korea’s Party-run publication, Rodong Sinmun, reported on the 23rd.
The piece stated that Kim Jung Eun “unified analyses about the pattern of the Chosun People’s Army [KPA] and provided the direction for the army’s campaign.”
During the conference, Kim noted the military’s lopsidedness from the previous year and remarked, “The revolutionary army’s foremost power
comes from its ideology and morals. The Mt. Baekdu unit trumps the enemy’s belief in the omnipotence of weapons and ideology.” He added, “We must vanquish our foes
through our ideology and morals.”
Kim emphasized that, “The KPA needs to focus all its
efforts on war preparations, for which we need to fix the army’s system and enable the military to carry out at any time the
strategic plans of the supreme commander,” adding that the “inevitable war with the United States” hinges upon these war strategies.
Although plans for the reconstitution of
the military system were discussed at the enlarged meeting, no specific plans for the shake-up of the military’s top brass were reported.
The Party’s Central
Military Commission decides the army’s route and
national defense policies, and its expansion conference was held for the first
time since April 2014.
