Birthday Publication Legitimizes Kim Jong Eun

[imText1]It has been revealed that North Korea’s National Defense Commission contributed a four-page spread to “Chosun People’s Army,” the publication of Ministry of the People’s Armed Force, on January 8th, which is alleged to be the birthday of Kim Jong Eun, third son of Kim Jong Il. In it, the logic of the third generation dynastic succession was explained. Open Radio for North Korea recently obtained a copy of the newspaper, which it made public yesterday, April 7th.

In the January 8th edition, Chosun People’s Army emphasized the loyalty of the military to the third generation succession in its first page editorial, saying, “The People’s Army will continue the tradition of loyalty to the Supreme Leader and Supreme Commander.”

The editorial went on, “The critical capacity to carry loyalty to the Supreme Leader and Supreme Commander down to the successor belongs to the People’s Army, the gun of the Mt. Baekdu (the Kim family). All the soldiers of the People’s Army should continue their mission and duty as the main force of revolution, as it was done in the past; in the tradition of loyalty to complete the Juche revolution.”

The editorial used a new expression, “the leadership to complete the great achievements of the Military-first Revolution” which many people assume to mean Kim Jong Eun.

The expression, “leadership of the Military-first Revolution” can be seen again on page 2 in another article, “For the Completion of the Succession for the Great Achievements of the Military-first Revolution,” which states, “Without the leadership of the Military-first Revolutionary Leaders, who lead the entire military in establishing the strong military climate and determined military system of the Supreme Commander, we can never think of the victorious, unbeatable, and strong military of the Mt. Baekdu revolution, which uses arms to guarantee the succession and link up the Juche revolutionary achievements.”

Or, to put it another way, the revolution cannot be completed without loyalty to the successor who will inherit the leadership system of Kim Jong Il.

On the third page, a solo writer contributes, “The Good Fortune of the General.” This essay backs the legitimacy of the dynastic succession through three generation of the Kim family, stating, “To us armed soldiers, the biggest piece of good fortune is that of receiving one generation of generals after another.”

“Thoughts about January,” a prosaic contribution to page 4, speaks of the true colors of Kim Jong Eun.

“We, the people, sang the song of spring in April to spread the virtue of our parental Supreme Leader,” it begins, “We also believed in our Supreme Commander and sang that February is also spring. However, today we nobly sing that the spring future of Military-first Chosun will begin in January.”

Kim Il Sung’s birthday is on the 15th of April, Kim Jong Il’s birthday is in February (16th), and Kim Jong Eun’s birthday is allegedly January (8th). North Korea made January 8th a national holiday this year.

Regarding the newspaper, Open Radio for North Korea explained, “The newspaper is the bulletin of the Ministry of the People’s Armed Forces and National Defense Commission. It was founded on July 10th, 1948. Approximately 400,000 copies are published every day and it is considered secret for security reasons, which makes getting it out of the country very difficult.”
