Park Seeks New Inter-Korean Partnership

“I am hopeful of a meaningful, sustainable agreement being reached at these working-level talks,” President Park Geun Hye revealed earlier today, as the fifth round of inter-Korean talks continue at the Kaesong Industrial Complex.

President Park, speaking at the Blue House, went on, “Though these working-level talks are focused on normalizing the Kaesong complex, we have to keep in mind that they serve as an important basis for the principles and frameworks to form new inter-Korean relations.”

Pointing to four rounds of talks having passed without any sign of consensus, she added, “Above all we must prepare a guarantee against any repeat (of the shutdown) and legal and institutional mechanisms corresponding to international norms so as to create secure conditions and allow confident investment. This will be helpful to both North and South Korea.”

“Several countries, including China and Vietnam, have created good precedents. They confirmed that they could derive much greater profit by guaranteeing investment conditions that satisfy international standards,” she pointed out.
