NK Conducts Third Nuclear Test

North Korea is believed to have conducted a nuclear test on Tuesday morning.

According to the South Korean Meteorological Agency, an earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred at 11:58AM at its test site in Kilju County, North Hamkyung Province.

The seismic activity was stronger than on the occasion of North Korea’s first and second nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009 respectively.

According to South Korean officials, North Korea gave advance notice to the U.S. and China on Monday that it would conduct a nuclear test on Tuesday.

President Lee Myung Bak convened an emergency meeting at 1PM to discuss South Korea’s response.
