2014 Student Conference on the DPRK

The “2014 Student Conference on the DPRK: How can the
international community effectively engage the DPRK?” will take place at
Harvard University on Saturday, September 13th. A student-led effort, and the
result of a year-long collaboration between Harvard Medical School Students for
Global Health and the Harvard Kennedy School DPRK Study Group, this conference
aims to offer students the opportunity to listen to the perspectives of experts
who have firsthand knowledge of the DPRK. The conference strives to offer
impartial, informative information through meaningful discussion and
participation.

Educational and logistical support for the effort was
provided by Engage Korea, a global network of students interested in the
DPRK, which also provides consulting and information about DPRK-related
education events.

Panel topics will cover economic engagement, UN/NGO
engagement, education-based engagement, and health-based engagement. Discussion
sessions regarding academic papers written by junior scholars will also feature
as part of the seminar, and to foster more honest discussions, the entire
conference will be off the record.

Throughout the conference, there will be guest speakers
including Friedrich Lohr, Former German Ambassador to the DPRK, Jerome Sauvage,
Former UN Coordinator to the DPRK and Scott Snyder, Director of the Program on
U.S.-Korea Policy at Council on Foreign Relations.

The event will take place from 8:00 AM to 6:45 PM in the
Tsai Auditorium within the Center for Government and International Studies at
Harvard University. More information on the conference can be found here.
