Chinese Tourists Keen on Mount Baekdu

It has been revealed via the official website of Jilin Province that Chinese tourism to Mount Baekdu rose 20% over last year.

According to the report, in the first half of this year 328,000 Chinese tourists flocked to Mount Baekdu, an increase of 19.3% from 2013. These figures suggest a monthly average of 54,000 people heading to the sacred mountain spot; an average of 1,800 people per day.

Labor Day, May 1st brought a high of 17,990 Chinese to the famous mountain for the three-day holiday, three times the number who made the journey last year.

In accordance with these rising tourist numbers, the region has reportedly seen a 23.2% increase in imports, totaling approximately 9.3 million RMB.

The inclusion of Mt. Baekdu on a recent survey of “China’s 10 Best Ecotourism Destinations” has helped the mountain garnering more attention as a tourist hotspot.
