No Sign of Slowdown for Sino-NK Trade

The Korea International Trade Association has revealed that trade between North Korea and China grew 10.4% last year to total $6.5 billion USD, nearly double the growth rate of 2012.

North Korea’s exports to China rose 17.2% from 2012 to total $2.9 billion.  Imports saw a 5.4% increase to $3.6 billion, seeing a 25% drop in the trade deficit. 

Anthracite, a compact mineral coal, was North Korea’s most exported commodity of 2013.  Iron ore exports also rose 21.3% from 2012.

Meanwhile, oil remains North Korea’s primary import. Conversely, the import of Chinese-made cell phones declined 26.6% from the previous year.
