Re-defectors Praise Kim, Criticize South

North Korea has held a press conference in which two “re-defectors” criticized the South and praised the benevolence of North Korean leader Kim Jong Eun.

“I was treated as subhuman from the moment I arrived in South Chosun. Theirs is a heartless society,” said 64-year-old Choe Gye Sun, one of the two female re-defectors who spoke at the conference on the 20th.

The two women also thanked Kim Jong Eun for his forgiveness and generosity that is “deeper than the ocean and wider than the sky.”

67-year-old Pak Jong Suk returned to the North last May after spending an unspecified amount of time in South Korea.  Since her return she has reportedly received an apartment, featured in a documentary film and given public lectures.

“Those people who have been kidnapped and dragged to South Chosun are of course under some illusions about (the place).  Those who have betrayed their homeland, too, are wanting to return to the embrace of the Republic,” she said, before adding that the number of people wishing to return home to the North was rising as a result of the “benevolence” and “wide politics” of Kim Jong Eun.

A former high-ranking North Korean now living in the South explained to Daily NK, “Large numbers of people associated with Jang Sung Taek are being purged, so the regime is preparing for future large-scale defection stemming from this domestic instability.  We can see that this press conference was held to in order to temper the agitated atmosphere following the execution of Jang Song Taek.”

This latest press conference takes the total number of re-defectors publicized by the North Korean regime to 13.
