Families Plead with Hu for Release

Representatives of the families of four North Korea human rights activists currently in detention in China have submitted a petition calling for their swift release to the Chinese embassy in Seoul.

The families gathered this morning with the main organization working to secure their release, the Committee for the Release of North Korean Human Rights Activist Kim Young Hwan, to deliver the petition addressed to Chinese leader Hu Jintao.

The main representative of the families, the wife of detainee Kang Shin Sam, personally delivered the petition, written in Korean and Chinese, to the embassy.

The petition letter states, Violating national security, the crime the detained men including my husband are accused of, is not acceptable, and failure to allow family meetings, legal consultation or anything except consular access, is also unacceptable.

My husband has always lived a sincere life, never hurting anyone. He is someone who has always had friendly feelings for China, it continues.

It also pleads, President Hu, please help us. Let me meet my husband. Let those including my husband who is being detained meet their families. Please let them return to the bosom of their families and to the Republic of Korea as soon as possible.
