Student Events to Commemorate Cheonan Sinking Begin

[imText1]A number of university student organizations working for North Korean human rights launched the “1st Anniversary Memorial to the Victims of the Cheonan” today to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the Cheonan sinking on March 26th, 2010.

Youth and Students Alliance for Human Rights in North Korea and another six South Korean organizations have formed the Cheonan Memory Committee and will hold several public campaigns to encourage the public to remember the victims between now and the end of this month: setting up a memorial; visiting the cemetery in Daejeon where the victims are buried and the incident spot itself; and holding a students’ conference.

“The reason why we, students, are standing here is only to remember those young spirits who fell in the line of duty to protect the country one year ago,” the committee said in a statement. “We call for the Kim Jong Il regime to apologize sincerely for the Cheonan sinking and Yeonpyeong Island attacks.”
