Pyongyang Is Busy for the Celebration of National Foundation Day

[imText1]I traveled to North Korea on the 6th of September this year, in connection with the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of North Korea.

I traveled as a regular tourist, but got a chance to see a lot of the country, even though the image that I was showed was a retouched one, to say the least. I want to share my trip with the readers of the Daily NK, through some of the pictures that I took during my trip.

North Korean businessmen and party officials have taken the chance to shop for goods in Beijing that aren’t available in their country. At the gate, I saw North Korean aircraft pilots buying large paper bags literally filled to the brim with cigarette cartons.

[imText2]Today was a busy day with three flights landing. The security personnel had very little time to check our bags, and just briefly opened my backpack to make sure that I hadn’t brought any non-approved literature.

[imText3]At the parking lot outside the airport, the Cuban ambassador’s car was waiting to take him and his wife into Pyongyang. Notice the surprisingly large number of cars in the background.
