“I Want to Take the Ferry.”

[imText1] A scene familiar to Chinese tourists: A dock on the Yalu River in Shinuiju as seen from Dandung in China. Well-fed citizens seem to lead stable lives.

Shinuiju is one of the most open cities in thought and attitude and is compared to Venice during the European Renaissance.

Attire is comparable to that of South Korea in the 1970’s and is significantly better in quality than available elsewhere in North Korea.

Waving their hands to impress the reporter, these children seem very familiar with camera-toting Chinese tourists, and may be emulating behavior observed elsewhere in the world. We look forward to the day when all North Korean children are as proud as these and North Korea embarks on a new era of rapprochement with South Korea and the rest of the world.

Although the wind was still cold, bright faces and smiles of Shinuiju children ushered in spring.
