A Scene of a Dock in Sinuiju

[imText1]Around 1 PM on Saturday, North Korean residents were awaiting a passenger ship connecting Sinuiju and Shindo Island in the mouth of the Yalu River at a dock in Sinuiju. The fare is 500 North Korean won per person with additional fee up to 500 if accompanied with baggage. Only those with travel permit could board, while the border guards and Shindo Island local government officials are free.

The liner arrived at the Sinuiju dock at 12 PM, and passengers came ashore. From 1 PM, residents heading toward Shindo Island started to embark.

Until 1995, passenger ships had been operated along the Yalu River. Since then, it had been stopped operating due to lack of Diesel oil. In 2003, when development project of the Shindo Island initiated, passenger liners resumed business to carry the North Koreans from Sinuiju to the island and vice versa, every two days.
