Last weekend, Daily NK spoke to Professor Andrei Lankov about the future of inter-Korean economic cooperation following the normalization of the Kaesong Industrial Complex. This Saturday Kaesong is back on the menu once again, as Professor Stephan Haggard speaks in detail to Daily NK about South Korean and Chinese economic engagement with North Korea, as well as the role and motivations of women in the North Korean economy.

Professor Haggard is a political economist based at UC San Diego in the United States. He is also the author of a number of keynote texts on North Korea, in particular “Famine in North Korea: Markets, Aid, and Reform” (2007) and “Witness to Transformation: Refugee Insights into North Korea” (2011), both of which he co-authored with Dr. Marcus Noland of the Peterson Institute for International Economics.

The interview took place in Seoul on Friday, August 23rd.
