Hwang Jang Yop Says, “Violent Protest at Pyongtaek Is Pro-Kim Jong Il Behavior”

[imText1]Mr. Hwang Jang Yop, the chairman of North Korean Democratization Alliance, criticized the violent protest on the issue of US military bases in Pyongtaek, led by Pro-North Korean organizations such as Hanchongryeon and The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, saying that it is treason-like behavior.

Mr. Hwang said in the interview with FreeNK (a broadcast led by North Korean defectors), “It was not a peaceful protest, but a violent one, against military forces, not just police. It is treason-like behavior which aims to oppose the government”.

He added, “there is room for consideration on what would be a fair way to define the incident, but I cannot but say that such behavior against the military is a rebellious act”.

Chairman Hwang also pointed out that a government that allows such violent events to occur is problematic in itself.

He said, “I cannot say that a government which keeps silent about violent behavior against the military does not have any connection with Kim Jong Il. People who are indifferent about the consequences of such incidents are also those who are deceived and overcome by Kim Jong Il”.

He also said, “It is hard for me to understand what it means for the person in charge of the government to let the judiciary to take care of it”.

Chairman Hwang said the groups and personnel leading anti-American protests are Pro-Kim Jong Il rather than pro-North Korea. He criticized them strongly, saying that they are disguised as ‘progressives’ in order to deceive the people.

“They are becoming pro-Kim Jong Il, saying that they are pro-North Korea. It is problematic that they can’t see through those who say they are pro-North Korea, progressive, and pro-peace, while they are pro-Kim Jong Il, who has betrayed the nation.

He also pointed out that South Koreans think that the protests are organized by farmers, and feel detached when the danger is so close. He said there is nothing that resembles Kim Jong Il’s style of ruling more than ignoring all laws and regulations.

Chairman Hwang said, “These behaviors are clearly led by people taking orders from Kim Jong Il. Nobody in South Korea would behave in such a way”.

He also added, “It doesn’t seem like the people realize the consequences of working for Kim Jong Il. That is why they continue to repeat that they will meet Kim Jong Il”.
