NSA Erects Latest Kim Jong Il Statue

Yet another statue of Kim Jong Il has been unveiled in North Korea, this one on the grounds of the infamous National Security Agency.

Rodong Shinmun reported the news today, announcing that the statue unveiling ceremony was held yesterday. According to the piece, “A statue of Generalissimo Kim Jong Il has been newly erected at Unit 10215 of the Chosun People’s Army.” Unit 10215 is the official military unit number of the National Security Agency.

The statue is just the latest in a rapidly growing line of such erections in Pyongyang, following the main one on Mansudae Hill (unveiled on April 13th), another at Mansudae Art Studio, and another outside the Ministry of the People’s Armed Forces.

However, the NSA statue is the first of Kim standing alone; all other known such statues feature Kim Jong Il alongside father Kim Il Sung.

Kim Won Hong, the head of the NSA, delivered the unveiling speech. Kim Jong Eun was not present; however, the event featured Kim Young Nam, Choi Young Rim, Choi Ryong Hae and Kim Ki Nam alongside Kim Won Hong.

Kim Jong Eun’s absence is true to form; the supreme leader does not ordinarily attend such events, instead delivering a floral tribute to the unveiling ceremony, as he did on this occasion.
