Worrying Foreign Waves Keep Crashing In

The North Korean authorities have once again emphasized the need for the younger generation to receive sufficient ideological education to counter the threat from the “sick and rotten” U.S. society.

Releasing an article, “American Imperialists’ Sneaky Psychological Warfare Misusing Modern Science and Technology,” on the 14th, Rodong Shinmun, the daily publication of the Chosun Workers’ Party declared, “All types of U.S. propagandist means including VOA (Voice of America) have been constantly releasing information slandering progressive countries’ social systems.”

“Through distorted information,” it frothed, “they have tried to cause rifts between the countries’ leaders and people, and shape fantasies about the sick and rotten American social system.”

The article continued, “Using the tools of information technology, they produce and circulate films and entertainment programs to preach American values in order to change the anti-Americanism of world peoples,” concluding, “In some countries, serious problems have arisen such as the waning ideological and mental condition of children and social conflict.”

However, it asserted, “Those who have a healthy immune system cannot easily be infected by germs,” and therefore, “We must not delay the ideological education of the young. Today’s reality demands it.”

Meanwhile, the propaganda website operated by the North Korean Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, “Uriminjokkiri” also released a similar claim on the 13th, asserting, “This year, the South Chosun puppets’ anti-Republic leaflet spreading maneuvers have become more open.”

The North Korean authorities have been trying once again to strengthen ideological education and propaganda since the Yeonpyeong attack, but continue to struggle against a populace with an interest in media offerings from abroad much more interesting than that which is domestically produced.
