Kim Jong Eun proclaimed that the Masikryong Ski Resort will see continued
improvement with every passing day to ultimately become a “truly monumental creation for this
era,” in a Rodong Sinmun article praising “the Marshal’s incredible efforts to see the facility created with such speed for the people” and noting the eternal contributions of the soldiers carrying out the directives.
The piece, published on February 3rd, stated that Kim Jong Eun made a speech in which he credited the soldiers’
vigorous spirit and courage, stating that the “audible cries from the
Masikryong region will be heard around the world, making the revolutionary army
of Mt. Baekdu known around the world.
“In an intense battle between our men and
nature, our soldiers displayed fierce determination to carry out our Supreme Commander’s orders, paving the way to success inch by
inch,” the article went on, accompanied by a smattering of photos depicting
soldiers tirelessly constructing the resort, the hotel it boasts, and residents
of all ages testing out the slopes.
Of the Rodong piece, one North Korean defector now residing in the South told Daily NK on condition of anonymity, “Kim Jong Eun is simply
using the Masikryong Ski Resort as a propaganda tool to be idolized for his
achievements. Residents won’t be able to even go to the resort so they likely have no interest in it.”
