After a 40-day absence from the public eye and a wide array
of speculations concerning his health, Kim Jong Eun appeared to give “field
guidance” at the newly built Wisong Scientists Residential District, according
to a report by the Chosun Central News Agency [KCNA] on October 14th.
The report did not release the specific date of the leader’s
appearance but it is thought to have taken place the day before, as is
customary in KCNA coverage of events.
“After being briefed on the district before a map showing
its bird’s-eye view, he [Kim Jong Eun] overlooked it,” the report stated.
“Our scientists are patriots who are devoting all their
lives to building a rich and powerful nation, convinced that though there is no
frontier in science, they have a socialist motherland and are under the care of
the mother party,” Kim declared during the visit.
Rodong Sinmun, the daily propaganda publication of the Chosun Workers’ Party released a series of photos from the event. The leader is pictured using a cane on his left side, presumably to aid in his recovery after undergoing surgery on his left ankle, according to rumors among residents in North Korea.
