NK Says Americans’ “Hostile Acts” Confirmed

North Korea has announced “confirmation” of the “hostile acts” allegedly committed by two U.S. citizens in detention
in the country, and declared that it plans to bring the cases to trial.

“Suspicions about their hostile acts have
been confirmed by evidence and their testimonies,” an English translation
carried by Chosun Central News Agency explained earlier today.

“The relevant organ of [North Korea] is
carrying on the investigation into them and making preparations for bringing
them before court on the basis of the already confirmed charges,” it added. According to the report, the two have received appropriate consular access and treatment to date.

The two are Matthew Todd Miller, a 24-year old who was
detained on April 10th, and 56-year old Jeffrey Edward Fowle, detained on April
29th. The two appear set to follow in the footsteps of fellow American Kenneth
Bae, who was handed a labor sentence of 15 years in April 2013.
