Fish Delivered to Select Yangkang Counties

North Korea is ramping up propaganda promoting Kim Jong Eun’s
“love for the people” with news that select areas of Yangkang Province have
received fish and other agricultural products, a move believed to be connected to Kim Jong Eun’s “gift politics.”

The Rodong Sinmun announced on the 4th that, “On the
morning of March 30th a train arrived at Hyesan Station bearing a
load of fish imbued with the warm benevolence of the loving Marshall.”

According to the piece, vehicles then transported seafood, including
squid and anchovies, to the interior counties of Samjiyon, Daehongdan and
Baekam.

“The fish of love reached scores of people throughout the
provinces, and were warmly received by nurseries, schools, nursing homes,
convalescent homes, trainees at factories in Hyesan, boarders at vocational
schools, and laborers working to reclaim land and construct houses,” it was
written.

Yangkang Province is considered an area of strategic interest
for the current regime; Kim Il Sung fought as a partisan in Samjiyon County and
Kim Jong Il is said to have been born on neighboring Mt. Baekdu.

Similarly, Baekam County contains the Mt. Baekdu
Military-First Youth Power Plant, heavily promoted as the achievement of Kim Jong Il. It is perhaps most well-known, however, as the center of North Korea’s potato industry.
