North Korea has criticized South Korea’s plans to increase its psychological warfare operations from next year, asserting that, “Trying to undermine the morale of the military and the people by such methods is like trying to crack a rock with an egg.”

In a Chosun Central News Agency (KCNA) editorial released yesterday entitled “The New Psychological Warfare Racket That Will Hasten Destruction,” it was stated that “the decision to use psychological warfare is no different from openly declaring war against us.”

"Instead of taking to heart the increasing criticism by the people and the international community, Park Geun Hye and her party has now signaled publicly that along with their master they will rely solely on military confrontation and schemes. It is almost as if they are not content with even confrontation with dialogue." the editorial continued.

A threat was also issued; “We are prepared to quash any physical or psychological warfare strategies and we will move directly into action at the slightest hint of provocation.”

According to military documents released on October 17th, both South Korea and the United States will actively push forward with psychological warfare equipment and specialists at their joint training exercises next year.

The South Korean military also intends to bolster its activities in this area through the development of broadcasting equipment and K9 artillery that can launch leaflets into the North.
