According to new details from inside North Korea, flood damage has created difficulties in Hyesan, a riverside city in Yangkang Province where a lot of housing is at or quite near the level of the Yalu River.

A source from the province told Daily NK on the 5th, Some homes in Hyesan have been submerged or swept away by the intense rains. A few people even disappeared in the waters. It became really chaotic at the time, with people looking for others who had disappeared and others trying to save their possessions from getting swept away. They are still looking for the ones who went missing.

The source went on, The damage was more serious because a lot of children were at home on vacation. People in the flood-damaged areas are pretty dissatisfied with the authorities. They never do much in terms of restoration, and people wonder why it has to happen every year like this.

A second source also explained the situation in the city, telling Daily NK, Water suddenly started entering houses on slopes in valley gorges away from the city center, like Chundong and Masandong. Some were heavily damaged there. People with damage to deal with have constructed temporary buildings next to their collapsed homes, while others have been retrieving their usable belongings from the mud.

They are trying to find disappeared people, but dont have any of the proper rescue equipment, the source noted. This is the reality of the search.
