It has been alleged that Koh Jong Nam, the 29-year old wife of Kim Kwang Hyok who ¡°re-defected¡± with him in September this year after four years living in South Korea and took part in a press conference in Pyongyang on November 8th, is a National Security Agency operative who entered South Korea in 2008 on the orders of the organization. She has also been accused of later luring her husband to return to North Korea for the benefit of herself and the Kim regime.

A source from Hoiryeong in North Hamkyung Province told Daily NK on the 19th, ¡°That woman started crossing the river illegally back in 2007, but was simply released every time she was repatriated." Sources say that when defectors are repatriated they almost always end up in labor units or re-education camps, but if they are agents then they get released immediately.

The source continued, ¡°Koh Jong Nam was not a security agent before, but during the interrogation process she was turned and started working for them. Such agents are ordered to work on capturing defectors and people who do not return from China on-time after visiting family.¡±

¡°Those people who become NSA agents get help from ethnic Koreans in China to find out the trends in defector society and where they are living," he went on. "They especially work on luring defectors, then those who do well get sent to South Korea for further espionage activities.¡±

Another source said that her own sister believes she was repatriated with Koh back in 2007, and that ¡°she said ¡®most of the women who were arrested were sent to labor training camps; she was the only one who was released, which made us think that she was an agent.¡¯¡±

According to the second source, Koh had little choice but to comply with the NSA¡¯s demands given that her parents and family live in Hongwon County, North Hamkyung Province.

In particular, the fact that she brought her child to China this time seems like something done under orders from the NSA. In the words of the source, ¡°The NSA called Koh back on the basis that she had gotten married and had a child, meaning she had lost her value as an agent.¡±

Meanwhile, the source also added that local people now view Koh with great disdain, declaring that she is a ¡°a terrible woman who shoved her husband and child off a cliff so that she could survive.¡±
