Activists Denied Entry to Balloon Launch Site

It appears that a launch of balloons carrying leaflets that was planned for 11:30AM by North Korean human rights organizations will have to be delayed after the security forces forbade entry to the site amid North Korean threats to attack it.

Entry via the two main routes into Imjingak was blocked as of 8:40AM today.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Unification, Kim Hyung Seok told a regular briefing moments ago, “The relevant agencies judged what entry controls were needed to maintain order. No special measures were taken at the governmental level.”

However, “A military threat over the behavior of private organizations is wholly inappropriate,” Kim added. “North Korea must stop the threats.”

According to activists planning to attend the balloon launch north of Seoul, the police have so far ignored their demands to be allowed into the area.
