Kim, a defector accused of kidnapping a 25-year old North Korean woman working in a restaurant has been released from custody in Cambodia and returned to South Korea.
According to the South Korean government, “The Cambodian judicial authorities made it clear that the accusation of kidnapping that had been leveled against Mr. Kim was false and that they would not prosecute him. He was then released.”
Kim had been accused of kidnapping the woman, Ms. Moon, who disappeared in June last year from her job at ‘Pyongyang Taedonggang’, a North Korean restaurant in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh. He came under suspicion after footage showing him emerging from a hotel with Moon prior to her disappearance was handed to the police by the North Korean embassy in the country.
However, Moon had actually been staying in a neighboring country, and had not been kidnapped at all. Kim was arrested at an airport in Cambodia on April 25th this year.
