A number of North Korea human rights organizations have joined hands to declare that September be ‘North Korean Human Rights Month’ and are organizing events to commemorate it.
A planning team has been formed to prepare the events, most of which will take place in Seoul. The roughly 20 participating groups, which includes Nknet and the Committee for the Democratization of North Korea, are hoping to use the month to better inform the public of North Korea human rights issues.
An event proclaiming the start of the month's events will take place at the National Assembly on the 3rd with more than 300 participants.
The secretary-general of NKnet, Kim Yun Tae, commented, “We planned this for September because it is the month when the United Nations session opens, as does the regular session of the Republic of Korea's National Assembly, so it is the best time to make an issue of North Korean human rights.’
