Parties Call for Torture Answers

Three South Korean political parties, the ruling Saenuri Party, opposition Democratic United Party and minor Advancement & Unification Party today jointly proposed a resolution calling on the Chinese government to give the truth about the mistreatment of Kim Young Hwan and three other South Korean men in Chinese custody and demanding that there be no recurrence of the same.

The resolution calls on the South Korean government to form an investigation team to look into the case, demands an official apology and requests responsible measures from the Chinese government to prevent such incidents, if the allegations made by Kim Young Hwan prove to be true.

Sung Wang Jong, the floor leader of the Advancement & Unification Party, pointed out at a press conference today, “We cannot under any circumstances overlook the doubts about what the Chinese government did to South Korean citizens. If the Chinese government really tortured South Korean citizens then it is more than just a personal issue. It is a violation of our sovereignty and undermines universal human values.”

“We urge the South Korean government to provide a systematic management service to protect our citizens from having their rights infringed by the governments of other countries.”
