Kim Jong Eun Greets Wang

Kim Jong Eun greeted Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Jiarui, who began his visit to North Korea on the 2nd. In September of 2010 Kim Jong Eun visited China with his father, however today¡¯s meeting marks Kim Jong Eun¡¯s first reception of a foreign dignitary as North Korea¡¯s leader.

KCNA revealed that Kim Jong Eun met with Minister Wang this morning, they exchanged warm and friendly conversation and the North Korean leader sent his regards to Chinese President Hu Jin Tao.

According to KCNA, Minister Wang stated, ¡°Developing friendly relations with North Korea has always been part of China¡¯s foreign policy,¡± He spoke poetically, adding, ¡°The flower of friendship between China and North Korea will continue to bloom beautifully, and it will bear fruit for both of our countries.¡± However, KCNA did not mention further details of the conversation.

Xinhua Chinese News Agency reported that Kim said to Minister Wang, ¡°It is the goal of our party to invigorate the economy and improve the living conditions of our people so that they may be happy and enjoy life.¡±

Xinhua reported Minister Wang emphasized certain key points concerning relations between China and North Korea, which included, ¡ã strengthening strategic contact ¡ã expanding cooperation on major international regional issues ¡ã promoting peace and stability on the peninsula ¡ã continuing efforts to achieve lasting peace in Northeast Asia.

Xinhua did not report on the possibility of Kim Jong Eun¡¯s future visits to China, the reemergence of the Six-Party Talks or specific issues facing the Korean peninsula. Minister Wang, on his previous visits to North Korea in February 2009 and February and May of 2010, met with Kim Jong Il and discussed the suspended Six-Party Talks as well as what were then current issues that faced the two countries.

Today¡¯s meeting was attended by North Korean Vice Prime Minister Kang Seok Ju, Director of the United Front Department Kim Yang Geon, and International Affairs Department of the Central Committee of the Workers Party Kim Sung Nam. The Chinese delegation included Liu Hongcai, Chinese Ambassador to North Korea.

Following the meeting, Kim Jong Eun had dinner with Minister Wang and his associates. Many North Korean high level officials were In attendance; Director of KPA General Political Department Choi Ryeong Hae, Vice Chairman of the National Defense Commission Jang Sun Taek, North Korean Vice Prime Minister Kang Seok Ju, Director of the International Affairs Department Kim Young Il, Director of the United Front Department Kim Yang Gun, Secretary of the Central Party Moon Kyung Deok, as well as Vice Directors Kim Byong Ho, Kim Sung Nam, Ri Soo Young and others.

Previously, on the 30th of the last month, Minister Wang led a delegation to visit North Korea and held a meeting with Kim Young Ik, Director of the International Affairs Department and the Pyongyang Children¡¯s Department, North Korea-China Friendship Tower and the People¡¯s Army Equipment Hall.
