Ruling Saenuri Party chairman Hwang Woo Yea has welcomed news of the return of Kim Young Hwan after nearly four months in Chinese detention.
Speaking today at a meeting of top party lawmakers at the National Assembly building, Hwang declared, “The Saenuri Party also sent a letter to the Communist Party of China calling for their release.”
“Kim used to be the pro-Juche group’s number one, but he realized the reality of North Korean human rights and changed his ideology and actions completely, taking the North Korean democratization and human rights activism path. He shows us that genuine, conscientious progressives should lead the fight for North Korean democratization and human rights.”
Kim and three other South Korean activists were detained by the Liaoning Province arm of the Ministry of State Security in late March, and detained without legal representation and minimal consular access for 114 days before arriving in Seoul last Friday night.
