The floor leader of the opposition Democratic United Party, Park Jie Won has pressed under fire lawmakers Lee Seok Gi and Kim Jae Yeon to resign their National Assembly seats, criticizing the United Progressive Party for its role in the betrayal of an agreement with the main opposition in the run up to April 11th legislative elections.

Presiding over a meeting of party lawmakers in South Jeolla Province today, Park asserted, ¡°We unified with the United Progressive Party in the April 11th elections, and the people of Gwangju and South Jeolla Province gave their cooperation to it as well, but now we are smarting a lot. It would be best for the two lawmakers to resign for themselves.¡±

He went on, ¡°An examination of the two UPP lawmakers¡¯ qualifications, not a Saenuri Party ideological struggle/pro-North Korea-type examination, would be welcomed. We can discuss the examination of their qualifications based on Constitutional Court precedent and the National Assembly Act.¡±
