Members of the Committee for the Release of North Korean Human Rights Activist Kim Young Hwan are planning to visit the Blue House with representatives of the families of those being held in China tomorrow to submit a petition calling for their release.
The release Committee revealed today in a press release, “The request will be submitted by family representative Kim Bo Yeon (39, wife of Kang Shin Sam) and Choi Hong Jae, the spokesperson for the committee. The request was handwritten by Kim.”
The handwritten petition by Kim Bo Yeon appeals for the immediate release of Kim Young Hwan and the three South Korean men, who have now been detained for 70 days.
An official close to the committee pointed out to Daily NK, “The families of the men who are currently being forcibly detained in Dandong are frustrated because interviews are not being allowed. In these circumstances I am submitting a petition to President Lee Myung Bak urging him to show an active interest.”
South Korean activist Kim and the three men were arrested in Dalian, Liaoning Province on March 29th by the Ministry of State Security. Kim has thus far been allowed a single interview with a South Korean consul; no other contact has been permitted.
