The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff conducted a check on military readiness early this morning.

The exercise was carried out by ROK ballistic missile command, front-line artillery units and the ROK Air Force at 4AM based on the notion of a North Korean artillery assault on frontline troops and areas of Seoul.

An official with the Joint Chiefs of Staff said, ¡°This readiness inspection stressed ensuring the ability to respond to the time and origin of enemy provocations and their supporting forces.¡±

A Ministry of National Defense official also commented, ¡°(The Minister of National Defense) knows about the discomfort felt by the people due to North Korea¡¯s threats. The military is maintaining its readiness posture, but this was intended to give the conviction that units are ready to implement the emergency joint strategy correctly and respond immediately.¡±
