North and Russia Touch Base on Gas Pipeline

North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho met with Russian First Vice Foreign Minister Andrey Denisov in Moscow yesterday.

A statement subsequently released by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the talks explained, “The two ministers exchanged opinions on ways to deal with the Korean Peninsula nuclear problem,” adding, “They promised to consult closely on Korean Peninsula denuclearization.”

The two also discussed issues including the construction of a natural gas pipeline across North Korea to the South.

Ri, who was previously in the U.S., where he suggested that the return of IAEA inspectors to select North Korean nuclear facilities may be near, is due next to travel to China for discussions with Six-Party Talks chairman Wu Dawei.
