Han Harks Back to Engagement Days

“We must talk with the new leader of North Korea,” the president of the opposition Democratic United Party, Han Myeong Sook told conference attendees in Seoul today.

Speaking at a pre-2012 Nuclear Security Summit international conference at the 63 Building on Yeouido, Han went on, “We must extend and deepen inter-Korean cooperation so as to achieve the actual denuclearization of North Korea.”

“The Lee Myung Bak government’s North Korea policy of just waiting for North Korea to change has failed,” she went on, declaring that instead, “The Democratic United Party will push for the normalization of inter-Korean relations, and withdraw the May 24th Measures which are blocking those relations.”

“We will do everything possible to implement the June 15th Joint Declaration and October 4th Declaration, and to restart humanitarian aid and Mt. Geumgang tours,” she added.
