Citizens Alliance for North Korean Human Rights and young persons’ group NAUH (Now Action & Unity for NK Human Rights) today launched a ‘walking campaign’ to draw attention to the ongoing detention of defectors in China.
More than 100 young people gathered at Gwanghwamun in central Seoul to walk the short distance to the Chinese embassy in Hyoja-dong, declaring, “Save My Friend!” as they walked.
25-year old Kim Eun Joo, who also has experience of forced repatriation back to North Korea, delivered a letter for Chinese President Hu Jintao in which she stated, “Thinking about the time of my repatriation makes me shiver. If they are repatriated, there will be no more hope. Chinese government, please understand the unfairness of it all and think preciously of them.”
Kim Il Sim commented, “Thanks to the kind Chinese people, I came to Korea. If these defectors are saved, I will be forever thankful to President Hu Jintao.”
South Korean high school student Yun I Na, meanwhile, added, “Please give these friends and other defectors the opportunity to dream dreams full of joy and hope, and let them live as humans.”
