Rice Distribution in 2012?

North Korea is likely to make a national distribution of rice before the Lunar New Year in efforts to settle Kim Jong Eun’s system, North Korean officials said on the 19th.

Through various inside sources, the Daily NK has reported that North Korean officials will supply five days of food before the Lunar New Year starting on the 20th.

Authorities revealed today, “Our leader Kim Jong Eun and the new Guidance Department will show the people something new, something different and will show residents a certain amount of distribution.”

Inside sources continued, “North Korea has been asserting and propagating a Prosperous and Strong Nation and feels that it needs to do something for the people. How much rice they acquired to distribute is unknown, but before the Lunar New Year and Kim Jong Il’s birthday on February 16th, there will likely be a rice distribution.”

“If the distributions take place, it looks like they are to be distributed across the country, yet much depends on how much rice they possess.”

However, “In 2005, when the distribution system was reestablished, the system itself was maintained but not carried out properly,” NK Daily sources said. “As rice is currently scarce in North Korea, I don’t know how much rice would be given.”

If North Korea were to conduct distribution across the country, it would be their first in seven years since 2005. On October 1st, 2005, North Korea’s Ministry of Procurement and Food Policy revealed that it would resume food distribution, yet the distribution lasted only three days.
