“Hellish totalitarian” North Korea has once again placed in the bottom three in the annual Reporters Sans Frontieres “Press Freedom Index 2010”.
Releasing the index, in which North Korea came 177th out of just 178 countries, Reporters Sans Frontieres accused North Korea of “persecution of the media and a complete lack of news and information.”
“In a succession framework set up by Kim Jong Il in favor of his son, crackdowns have become even harsher,” the report also noted.
North Korea has never been outside the bottom three in the index, which was launched in 2002; in 2009 it came 174th out of 175 countries.
South Korea ranked 42nd in the 2010 list, representing an improvement on 2009, when it came 69th.
