Rice Aid to the North Determined in April

[imText1]The 20th South-North High Level Cabinet Talks held its concluding meeting at Koryo Hotel in Pyongyang on the afternoon of 2nd. The final meeting agreed to resume talks at the 13th South-North Economic Cooperation Committee that will commence on April 18th~21st.

However, at the recent talks the South and North did not mention any documentation regarding the timing and amount of rice or fertilizer that would be provided to North Korea. The idea is to discuss issues related to rice for North Korea at the next 13th South-North Economic Cooperation Committee.

Rather at the recent meeting, the South and North passed 6 articles on ‘South-North’s High Level Cabinet Talks Collaborative Report.” At the recent talks, the North requested that rice and fertilizer be donated as soon as possible, whereas the South made its position clear that an ultimate decision could only be made with the implementation of the Feb 13 Agreement in Beijing.

Irrespective of this, what the South Korean government has proposed from the beginning was for the smooth implementation of the North’s Feb 13 Agreement, the denuclearization of South-North Korea and the passing of a 3rd period of the 5th round of 6 Party Talks.

Additionally, the 5th Separated Families Summit will take place on March 27th until 29th, and the 15th reunion of separated families will occur in early-mid May at Mt Geumgang.

In particular, the Inter-Korean Red Cross talks opening at Mt. Geumgang on April 10th~12th will aim to attract discussion on finding family and friends whose contact was lost either during the war or post-war period.

On top of this, the North and South agreed to take necessary measures that would expand constructions at Kaesung Complex.

The 21st South-North High Level Cabinet Talks will take place from May 29th~June 1st in Seoul.
