Ri Su Yong Visits Cuba, Stresses Bond Against U.S.

During his visit to Cuba, North Korea’s
Foreign Minister Ri Su Yong underscored the friendly relationship between
Pyongyang and Havana.

Foreign Minister Ri met with his Cuban
counterpart, Minister Bruno Rodriguez, emphasizing the “excellent relations” between the two countries, which “Kim Jong Eun
hopes to further strengthen,” Cuba’s state-run news agency, Prensa Latina,
reported on March 16th.

During the meeting, Minister Rodriguez highlighted Cuba’s
active support of a peaceful unification between the two Koreas, free of
foreign meddling or influence. He also stressed the bond shared by North
Korea and Cuba, both suffering under “economic pressure from U.S.
imperialism.”

Minister Ri’s visit to Cuba came as the
U.S. and Cuba held the third round of talks aimed at normalizing relations
between the two countries. His visit is the first by a North Korean official
since Havana and Washington began taking steps toward rapprochement last year.
