NKHR Rescue Fund Hosts ‘Propaganda and the North Korean State’ Event

North Korean Human Rights Rescue Fund, a
volunteer-run group within the Seoul-based NGO, Citizens’ Alliance for
North Korean Human Rights[NKHR]
, will host an event called “Two Truths
and a Lie: Propaganda in the North Korean State” at Rocky Mountain Tavern
in Itaewon, Seoul on February 27th from 7:30-9:30p.m.

Every year, NKHR receives a large number of
requests from North Koreans who have escaped to China and are vulnerable to
exploitation and under constant threat of being sent back to North Korea. The
Rescue Fund was created in 2013 to help NKHR rescue as many of those refugees
as possible.

This event is designed to raise awareness on
how the North Korean government perpetuates its regime through propaganda and
surveillance. Guests will have the opportunity to hear from Lee Sung Ju, a
North Korean defector who will recount his childhood in Pyongyang, in which
propaganda and surveillance was an everyday aspect of life.

Raffle tickets for 10,000 KRW [20,000 KRW for three tickets and a thank you gift] will also be available for purchase to win great prizes from some of Seoul’s most popular eateries including Phillies pub and The Beastro. All of the proceeds will go toward helping North Korean defectors reach South
Korea safely.

Those who wish to attend should make
reservations via email: nkhrrescuefund@gmail.com. More information on the venue and the event itself is available here
