As the people’s interest in unification continues to grow,
following President Park Geun Hye’s “unification jackpot” remark, the Daily NK is hosting a seminar about North Korean defectors’ role in the era of
unification on Thursday, November 27th at the Seoul Press Center.
Defectors are considered significant assets in the event of
unification due to their experience living in both the Koreas. The seminar will
feature a number of experts, all of whom have conducted extensive
research in the field, discussing defector-led efforts for the new society that will emerge on a unified Korean Peninsula.
Manager of the Daily NK Unification Strategy Research
Center, Sohn Kwang Ju; and Han Ki Hong, the president of Network for North
Korean Democracy and Human Rights [NKnet], plan to discuss the importance of
defectors’ roles, while Professor Park Yun Sook, a cyber university professor,
will offer policy suggestions to support these efforts.
Following this, a North Korean defector and the head of
North Korea Strategy Center, Kang Cheol Hwan, is scheduled to debate
unification and defectors’ role therein with Professor Yi Chul Soo of Shinhan
Graduate School.
The seminar is the third part of a series hosted by Daily NK seeking solutions and efforts toward fostering a society where defectors play the leading role in the
era of unification. The event will be held in Gukwa Hall, located on the 19th floor
of the Seoul Press Center, from 2:30p.m.-4:30p.m.
