[imText1]Peter Burian, Chairman of the U.N. sanctions committee against North Korea revealed “In future, Kaesung Industrial Complex and operations for Mt. Geumgang Tourism will be managed in accordance to the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1718 and member countries.”

Chairman Burian said in an interview on the 26th with VOA (Voice of America) “The committee has only discussed placing embargos on luxury goods and nothing has been implemented.” However, regarding the possibility of sanctions he said “Excluding special cases or private matters, the committee cannot yet assess the results of the discussions.”

The U.N. sanctions committee has sent correspondence in regarding the provision of luxury goods to nuclear missile technology to each member country, in which each member country must respond by submitting a report by the 30th stating its actions on the issue. It appears that thorough investigation will be conducted on the basis of these reports in regards to each country’s measures on North Korea and then the Kaesung Industrial Complex and Mt. Geumgang issue will be discussed.

Asked whether or not Kim Jong Il will be included in travel restrictions related to North Korea’s nukes, he said “Next week (early November) discussions will be made in regards to freezing assets and prohibitions on travel and goods” and opened the possibility that “Any individual or organization related in any way to the manufacture or development of ballistic missiles and programs will be included subject to the sanctions.”

He said “The sanctions committee hopes that member countries will abide by the duties of the resolution” and “In addition to the action reports by each country, we will examine resolutions of each country and how it is being implemented.”
