14th Pyongyang Film Festival Set for September

Pyongyang plans to host the 14th international
film festival titled, “Independence, Peace and Friendship” next month, Radio Free Asia [RFA]
reported on August 20th.

Since its introduction in 1987, the festival has been held in September on a biannual basis. Spanning from September
17th to September 24th, the event will include films from many genres, such as
: feature presentations, art house selections, documentaries, and shorts.

Affiliated members of the film industry
from Australia, Canada, China, Iran, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom are
scheduled to attend the event. “Bend it like Beckham”, as well as the
Bollywood-inspired film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, “Bride
and Prejudice” are scheduled to run at this year’s festival. 

Koryo Tours, a British-run travel agency
based in Beijing and an official sponsor of the festival, is offering a special
tour package for the event.
 

The tour package, priced at $2,000 USD,
includes attendance to the festival’s opening and closing ceremonies, the
chance to meet North Korean actors and directors, visits to filming locations,
and sightseeing in the areas of Pyongyang, Pyongseong, and Panmunjeom.
 

“Comrade Kim Goes Flying”, a joint venture
between the UK, Belgium, and North Korea, was the main feature of the 13th
Pyongyang International Film Festival.
