Chongryon Headquarters Auctioned Off

Property belonging to pro-Pyongyang group the General
Association of Korean Residents in Japan [Chongryon] has been acquired by
Takamatsu-based company Marunaka Holdings for the sum of 2.21 billion Japanese Yen,
despite the minimum sale price being set at 2.13 billion yen.

According to Kyodo News, the
Tokyo District Court decided to auction Chongryon’s headquarters in 2012 after
the Japanese government-backed Resolution and Collection Corporation claimed
Chongryon owed them close to 62.7 billion yen.

The property consists of a
ten-storey head office with two basement floors on a 2,387 square meter parcel
of land in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward.
