Kim Jong Il's former personal representative and associate of Jang Song Taek Ri Su Yong has been executed, Japanese periodical Mainichi Shimbun reported on the 11th.
A casualty of Jang's sudden, public purge, Ri managed Kim Jong Il’s secret overseas funds and may have clashed with Kim Jong Eun in this area, it was claimed.
The piece cited a number of sources close to the North Korean leadership.
According to the article, several other cadres are soon to face execution, in addition to Jang Soo Kil and Ri Yong Ha who are widely reported to have already been killed.
Ri Su Yong was appointed North Korean ambassador to Switzerland in 1988 and was guardian to the young Kim Jong Eun during his period of overseas study. He is thought to have handled around $4b of Kim Jong Il’s hidden funds under the moniker Ri Chol.
After returning to North Korea in 2010, Ri took orders from Jang and was charged with attracting foreign capital as the Head of the Commission for Joint Venture and Investment.
