The South Korean government has responded to North Korea’s threats to punish those involved in aiding defection, “We express regret at the distorted opinion of the North. We urge that these threatening, harmful words against our citizens cease immediately.”
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Unification, Kim Eui Do told a press briefing today, “The government has clearly stated that it will deal firmly with any provocation by the North.” Kim also asserted that the North's claim to have apprehended a South Korean spy dispatched by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) is “groundless talk.”
On the 8th, North Korea’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland asserted, “Whoever challenges our sacred dignity and regime and harms the human rights of our people will no longer be able to draw breath on this land, under this sky. It must be kept in mind that our ultimatums will no longer be just verbal warnings.”
